New project

So, many of you know that we plant a garden every summer...well if you didn't, we do...nothing big, just herbs, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, that's about it. Ben has done gardens most of his life, but for me...I'm a first timer. I'm starting to get a little more comfortable with it, so this year I decided to go wild and try growing Sun Flowers behind the garden. I read a few things online, and started off by germinating them before planting. This way I could plant just the strong one, those that didn't sprout, I threw out. So, here's a few pictures of my germination...standby for more pictures as they grow.

Here are the two packets I picked up for cheap at our local garden center.

To get them to germinate, I placed the seeds in between wet paper towels and kept them damp until they began to sprout...just a few days was all it took.

Here's what I ended up with before I planted...it was pretty cool.

I did all this at the end of June, so I'll post a few pictures of how they look since I planted next time I post!

It's amazing how such little seeds turn into such giant plants. I've always loved sunflowers. Good luck and we look forward to the future pictures.

cool..i would love to plant a garden but I kill everything green that I touch. even the plants you dont have to touch or care for die with me. Sooo I guess I i will keep the grocery store hot & in business. LOL

(for your friend) I wouldn't worry about a purple thumb that kills stuff -- it's a stage you can grow out of if you give yourself enough time. Worked that way for me anyhow. My mom got to take care of a spindly, three yellow-leafed spider plant my son brought home from pre-school; I knew it would die in my care. It survived and was the most beautiful, thriving-with-spiders plant when he graduated high school -- even in my care along the way.
Tara, where are the mature sunflower pictures? It's now September 17! Post...
